My job is to set up the press and produce various colour printing jobs. In my spare time I enjoy seeing my granddaughter, and walking in the local mountains with my dog.
Graphic Designer and Marketing
A bilingual graphic designer with over ten years experience in creating branding and designs to meet our clients every needs. From concept through to print I’m a stickler for the finer details. Also responsible for the marketing of design2print. When not busy creating beautiful designs I have to keep fit and active, whether running or spinning as long as you get a sweat on it’s all good!
I am part of the finishing team – mainly running the stitching line which produces complete books. In my spare time I enjoy socialising with friends and keeping active.
I’ve been at design2print for the last 18 years, my job is to set up the press and produce various colour printing jobs. I enjoy most sports especially football and rugby, walking around the North Wales coastline and travelling to interesting places abroad.
I do most of the folding prior to stitching/binding as well as any other finishing tasks. Away from work I am a part time disc jockey and enjoy playing pool for my local team.
I ensure projects are passed through our system as smoothly and professionally as possible, liaising with clients all the way. Out of work I avidly follow motor racing (from the comfort of my armchair). I also carry out a lot of charity work.
It’s my job to work out quotes for each request that comes in and I help oversee the day-to-day running of the business. Outside work I split my time between socialising and working on my computer.
I ensure the smooth running of the design workload as well as work on graphic design projects for clients. I love spending time with my four year old son. He’s yet to decide if he’s a football, golf or rugby man – but his skills in all three are developing nicely!
I’ve worked in the print trade for more than 35 years as an estimator – as well as producing estimates I purchase paper for our products. To relax I enjoy walking in North Wales with my wife, and watching Everton FC, which sometimes requires a glass of red wine or two!
My job at design2print is to make sure everything runs smoothly on the factory floor and jobs go out to customers on time. I also oversee the day-to-day running of the business. In my spare time I like to go on walks and do a bit of retail therapy.
I ensure that all items are packaged and addressed correctly and delivered smoothly and on time. Out of work I enjoy family time with the grandchildren who keep me active and young of mind!
My job is to set up the press and produce various colour printing jobs. When I’m not at work I like to spend time with my family or you’ll find me on the golf course (weather permitting!).
I run the business, develop strategy and direction (An MD is paid to create the future, not manage the present). But sometimes I make the coffee too. It’s good coffee, though! Away from the office, I like to hit the golf course (not literally, unless I really slice my drive).
I create design solutions with a high visual impact. I meet clients, interpret their needs and develop concepts to suit. I then work these up into great, print-ready designs. Otherwise I’m an outdoor junkie. You’ll almost always find a kayak on the roof of my car, as I explore the beautiful North Wales coast from the water.
I am responsible for the imposition, processing and platemaking of all print work. I enjoy family life, walking and touring with my wife and I also get a real buzz from record collecting and antiques research.
Credit Controller, Accounts assistant, Administrator, Receptionist, Talented person all round!
Away from the desk I entertain friends at the weekend, or go camping. I live on the Great Orme and regularly walk over the mountain with my beautiful grandchildren.
I organise and manage the finishing team, in all aspects of the finishing from stitching to creasing to laminating – what I don’t know about finishing isn’t worth knowing! In my spare time I love any type of fishing: Sea fishing, match fishing, river fishing – you name it I will do it. Otherwise, you can’t beat spending time with close family.

Joining our print room this spring Ian Turley has quickly become a real asset to the design2print team. Ian, who lives in Conwy, is a print finisher, meaning that he takes care of everything once printing has been completed including gluing, binding, cutting, etc. In short he makes sure that the final product you receive is spot on. Ian knows the trade inside out having started in the printing trade straight from school and says the best part of working here is the camaraderie. Outside of work, Ian is a bit of a globetrotter and has travelled widely in America, South America and Asia. He cites Sri Lanka as his favourite place to be thanks to the stunning scenery and friendly welcome. Next on the hit list is Australia and South Africa. Married with grandchildren, Ian says he is never happier than when walking the dog Ellie, gardening or trout fishing with his twin brother.
Newly launched social enterprise Mother Mountain Productions is a media company that creates films to help organisations and individuals tell their story. MD Jude Limb, has 14 years experience working for the BBC as a former producer and director and cites the likes of Mohammed Ali and John Simpson among her working credits. When Jude launched the Cheshire based not-for-profit this spring, she came to design2print to create the logo and other marketing materials. “Designer, Jamie was not only very creative by extremely flexible to our needs. He was able to grasp the initial concept I had for the design, listened to my brief and pulled out all the stops,” she said. “The result is the production of a fresh, clear and strong brand which is precisely what we wanted. I would highly recommend them to others.”
Apprentice print finisher Ben Jones, 18, is the latest addition to the design2print team. Ben, who joined us in May, is learning the ropes in our print room. As part of his apprenticeship he works four days at our Llandudno office and spends one day a week at North Wales Training.
Ben has fitted into the team well and reckons the best thing about working at design2print, is the team’s sense of humour: “Everyone is funny and easy to get along with,” he says.
Outside of work, Ben lives with his mum and sister in Colwyn Bay and, like most people his age, counts socialising as his favourite thing to do. He also has been bitten by the travelling bug and has a taste for the high-life citing Las Vegas and Dubai as his favourite places to be.
Designed using a stunning picture taken from the hills above Llangollen, this Go North Wales wallpaper sums up the breath-taking scenery typical of this part of the world. The wallpaper, designed and printed by design2print, has become a talking point according to Jim Jones, MD of North Wales Tourism, who commissioned the artwork.
“The Go North Wales wallpaper has pride of place in our headquarters in Colwyn Bay and whoever comes into the building is incredibly impressed by it,” Jim said. “The branding, also supplied by design2print, fits perfectly with the backdrop.”
“We use design2print because of their excellent quality, innovation and imagination and this wallpaper sums that up, the concept is fresh and original and showcases what North Wales Tourism has to offer.”

Sue Walker is the first face you will see walking through the door at d2p. Friendly and outgoing, Sue has been a part of the team here in Llandudno for seven years.
She describes her sense of humour as ‘strange’, but you will need to mind your Ps and Qs with Sue, as her favourite subject at school was English and she’s a stickler for grammar and correct spelling.
Loving old buildings with character, it’s no surprise that Sue says Llandudno is her favourite place to be. Living on the Great Orme she also has fabulous views.
Sue also had a brush with fame on ‘Juke Box Jury’ in 1979. “Myself and then boyfriend (now husband) were interviewed on the prom in Llandudno and it went out the following Saturday. I would love to get a copy of it to show the children and grandchildren!”
Fly Paddles is a labour of love for outdoor instructors Rhys Watkin and Hope Filby. The couple set up the bespoke paddle business after Rhys decided to try his hand at making his own paddle and was hooked (the name came after a fly landed in the drying oil of that first attempt).
With some paddle-making training under his belt and a Facebook page set up, Fly Paddles is now getting enquiries from across the world. Each paddle crafted at the couple’s workshop near Criccieth is made to order. Customers get to choose the precise length and types of wood used, so their paddle is completely individual.
Our designer Glyn created the distinctive Fly Paddles logo, which is now adorning all of the bespoke items leaving Rhys’ workshop. To find out more, search for Fly Paddles on Facebook or call 07787 124110.

Lucy came to us straight after graduating from Bristol University following her graphic design degree 14 years ago. As well as being a great graphic designer, Lucy is responsible for our brand new e-commerce website. What’s your idea of great design? I get really inspired by interior decoration and prints. I love Orla Kieley and the whole retro/kitsch vibe. I also admire children’s illustrators such as Quentin Blake and Eric Carle, who were a big influence when I was growing up and probably helped me realise art was something I loved looking at and creating. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? I love running and make the most of any spare time I have by zoning out in the gym, or doing spinning classes. I’ve always been a bookworm, so revisiting my childhood books with my son is great. What makes you laugh? My little boy’s musings!
What better way to celebrate St David’s Day than with a plate full of delicious Welsh Cakes?
The most mouthwatering recipe can be found in the ‘Snowdon Café Cookbook’ priced £4.99 available here: www.snowdoncafe.com. Proceeds from sales of the book will go towards the Love Hope Strength Foundation charity which promotes music related, outreach and awareness programmes for Leukaemia and cancer sufferers, survivors and their families.
The recipe, from the talented Steffan Roberts of Penyceunant Tea Room – Snowdon Café – is simple, but the results are delicious!
As Steffan explains in the ‘Snowdon Café Cookbook’: “Once you have mastered this recipe you’ll never eat a factory made Welsh Cake again.”
You can serve the Welsh Cakes with butter or, Steffan recommends jam and cream ‘like we do in the café’.
The brand new design2print website is now live – complete with online ordering for the very first time.
With prices displayed on the website, there is no need to ask for a quotation, simply upload your artwork, pay online and we will do the rest.
Design2print managing director Reece Owen said: “This is a digital print service that we’re launching in recognition that some of our customers need a hassle-free, fast service for print runs of up to 500 when their current supplies have run out.
“When they need, for example, extra business cards, flyers, or compliment slips they can go straight to our website and it will take just a few clicks to get the process started.”
“While we are delighted to be launching online ordering, we will continue to offer graphic design, lithographic printing and long print run services as before,” Reece added.

This month’s staff profile is from Ashley Weale. Ashley is a print finisher and master fisherman, who once hauled a 65lb catfish from a Spanish river. He is also possibly the only person in North Wales who doesn’t dream of a white Christmas…
What is the best thing about working at design2print? The team spirit is probably what has kept me here for 17 years. We have a great group of people who all enjoy working together. There’s a lot of satisfaction in getting the job done properly and orders out on time.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Any type of fishing: Sea fishing, match fishing, river fishing – you name it I will do it. I love the peace and quiet and the challenge of fishing. My biggest catch to date was a 65lb catfish at the River Ebro in northern Spain. I like the challenge and peace and quiet of fishing.
We were recently lucky enough to work with Steffan Roberts from the famous Snowdon Café on his delicious new cookbook. Steffan, who is a font of foodie knowledge, was kind enough to let us share one of his recipes.
This is Pen-y-Ceunant tearoom’s famous Snowdon Pudding, taken from the Snowdon Café Cookbook by Steffan Rhys.
First written down by Eliza Acton in 1815, Steffan tells us that this pudding was served to walkers and climbers after they returned from a day on the mountains.
The recipe below has a few of Steffan’s signature tweaks. The finished result is utterly delicious, warming and the perfect reward after a bracing, autumn hill-walk, or an invigorating stroll along the North Wales coastline.
